NA Selank Amidate
Selank with an acetyl cap and an amidated tail: the modification is meant to keep the Russian anxiolytic heptapeptide stable for longer, with the same mode of action.

Overview
Behind the unwieldy name sits the Russian peptide Selank, sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, in a chemically altered form: an acetyl group at the N-terminus and an amide at the C-terminus. Both changes shield the molecule from degrading enzymes and are meant to stretch the time it stays active considerably.
The parent peptide is a creation of the Institute of Molecular Genetics at the Russian Academy of Sciences; Russia has approved it for anxiety disorders. For the amidated variant, the literature assumes the same mode of action:
- modulation of GABAergic and serotonergic signalling
- anxiolytic effects in study models, without the sedation and dependence seen with classical tranquilizers
- nasal delivery in studies; the stabilized form has also been given under the skin, with better systemic availability
So far the advantage of the modification is mainly a pharmacokinetic argument: same pharmacology, longer residence time. Head-to-head comparisons between the N-acetyl amidate form and the original are scarce, and nearly all data come from unmodified Selank. Anyone trying to place the substance therefore reads the Selank literature at its core. In a 2010 transcriptome study, Selank changed gene expression in the rat hippocampus after a single dose as well as after repeated dosing; experiments on IMR-32 cells showed a shift in GABAergic receptor components; and nasal dosing raised BDNF in the rat hippocampus. A 2019 paper adds that Selank softens an ethanol-induced memory deficit via the BDNF content of hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.
Risk notes
The safety profile is borrowed from the Selank literature, which consistently describes the peptide as well tolerated, with no sedation or habituation. What you should keep in mind:
- Nasal dosing: burning, dry or irritated nasal mucosa is the most common observation.
- Subcutaneous dosing: occasional mild redness or a feeling of pressure around the injection site.
- Calming: brief tiredness is reported now and then, in line with the anxiolytic direction of action.
- Data gap: for the acetylated and amidated form itself there are hardly any comparative data and no robust long-term human studies.
